Utpatti tells the story of the Suryavanshi family who live in Rajkot in the state of Gujarat. After many years of male-rule, the Haveli receives its first female ruler in the form of Shakuntala Suryavanshi – known for her corruption and promiscuity and referred to as Black Laxmi by people who fear her.
But Shakuntala’s current status comes with a tarnished past and an equally controversial present that she fights hard to keep from her children every day. But her reputation precedes her and although her children seem to be aware of their mother’s antics, they love and respect her too much to question her deeds.
Shakuntala’s right hand is her Devrani – Veena and she supports her Jethani in each and every endeavor.
